The Community of Spokane Washington


Once known as Spokane Falls, the area changed its name simply to “Spokane” in 1891 although it had been incorporated as the city of Spokane in 1881. This occurred shortly after the railroad was completed. The railroad’s growth resulted in growth for Spokane which reached a population larger than 100,000 by 1910. Today the population of Spokane and the surrounding areas continues to grow at a quick pace.

Spokane, Washington Today
Today Spokane, Washington is even larger and Spokane real estate is always of interest to newcomers as well as those in the area looking to buy or sell their home. Living in Spokane is really worthwhile because it has the best of both worlds. Beauty abounds with trees, grass, trails, and plenty of outdoor activities. However, everything you could want from big city life is available at the same time. From hiking and biking and mall shopping to world class museums Spokane, Washington really has it all.

Location
Spokane, Washington is located on the eastern border of Washington state. In fact, the city of Spokane is located fairly close to the state line between Washington and Idaho. Additionally, Spokane real estate costs less than the state’s average so finding a nice place to live in Spokane is not difficult. The lower Spokane real estate prices come as a big surprise to many since Spokane is Washington’s second largest city.

Education
Two well known universities are located in or near Spokane, Washington. These include Gonzaga University and the Washington State University at Spokane.

As far as the Spokane Public Schools System goes children are learning and SAT scores have been climbing over the past years. This puts many parents’ fears to rest that their children are learning and achieving through the public school system. There are many private schools in and around Spokane, Washington as well.
