Spokane Valley, Washington is the eighth largest city in the state and was recently incorporated in 2003. Spokane Valley had tried to incorporate four times before, but it was always turned down. Finally with a population topping 80,000 the city was granted its incorporation.

History
Spokane Valley was basically populated due to the urban overflow of Spokane. The Modern Electric Water and Irrigation Company was established there at the turn of the century. Then, after the second World War the population of Spokane Valley began increasing rapidly and it became more of an urban area with houses replacing one orchard after another.

The City of Spokane was a very separate from the Spokane Valley and the residents of each considered themselves from different places. Schools, businesses, and even a newspaper and airfield were springing up in Spokane Valley, yet the area remained unincorporated.
